Joseph Kinsey 1845-1912

Seeking descendants of Joseph Kinsey

We are seeking descendants of Joseph KINSEY, son of Joseph and Jane KINSEY, who was born on 30 January 1845 in Lilleshall, Shropshire and baptised on 9 April 1845 at the old St Georges Church in Pains Lane, now known as St Georges, Shropshire.

Joseph married Mary JOSEPHS on 13 February 1871 at St Georges Church, St Georges Shropshire, his bride Mary was born in Landshipping Ferry Pembrokeshire Wales in c July 1840.

From the time of the 1871 census Joseph and Mary lived in St Georges, either in Watling St, now known as Church St or Duke Street at No. 9 or at Rosemary Cottage. Joseph earned is living working with Stationery Engines at the local collieries, either tending them or later on as a driver.

Joseph died on 15 August 1912 and was buried a few days later at St Georges Church, the picture of his headstone left, shows his name towards the bottom.

Children of Joseph & Mary Kinsey

Edwin Ernest KINSEY, was born on 29 May 1872 in St Georges, Shropshire.

Edwin married Emily HOWELLS 3rd Quarter 1897 in Wellington, Shropshire.

By the time the 1939 Register was taken on 29 September 1939 Edwin had retired and he and Emily were living at 8 Moss Road, Wrockwardine Wood. Edwin died in 1952 aged 80 years and was buried in Wrockwardine Wood Methodist Chapel Burial Ground. Emily died in 1958 and buried alongside her husband.

Mary Maria Kinsey (1907-1907)

Matthew Walter KINSEY (1909-1909)

Joseph Thomas KINSEY was born in 1873 in St Georges. He died on 13 June 1908 in a mining accident at East Cannock Colliery, Cannock Staffordshire aged 34 and was buried on 18 June 1908 at St Georges Church.

Sarah Jane Kinsey was born in January 1876 in St Georges and baptised on 26 January 1875 at St Georges Church.

Dennis William KINSEY was born on 9 February 1878 in St Georges and was baptised on 27 February 1878 at St Georges Church.

Dennis married Mary Ann PLANT in 1908. By the time the 1939 Register was taken on 29 September 1939 he and Mary were living at 3 Moss Road Wrockwardine Wood and he working as a Coal Hewer Underground. Dennis died on 8 September 1952 onboard a train from Crewe to Stafford.

Charles Sydney KINSEY was born in 1880 in St Georges and baptised on 3 March 1880 at St Georges Church. Sadly he died on 7 January 1883 aged just 2 years 10 months and buried at St Georges Church, his name can be seen on the headstone.

Alfred George KINSEY was born in February 1882 in St Georges and baptised on 14 February 1882 at St Georges Church.

Sydney Percy KINSEY was born in 1884 in St Georges and sadly died on 4 March 1885 aged 1. He was buried on 9 April 1885 at St Georges Church, his name can be seen on the headstone.

Susan Lily KINSEY was born in 1887 in St Georges and married Bertie THOMAS in 1914.

Grandchildren of Joseph & Mary Kinsey

Beatrice Lily KINSEY, daughter of Edwin Ernest KINSEY and Emily HOWELLS, was born on 23 February 1900 in St Georges, Shropshire and was baptised on 25 March 1900 at Holy Trinity Wrockwardine Wood.

Beatrice married Harold Wilfred GOUGH in 1922 in Wellington, Shropshire. By the time the 1939 Register was taken on 29 September 1939 they were living at 35 Stafford Rd Oakengates, Harold was working as a carpenter and joiner.

Harold died in Telford in 1974 and Beatrice is believed to have died some 14 years later in 1988 in Shrewsbury.

Gladys May KINSEY, daughter of Edwin Ernest KINSEY and Emily HOWELLS, was born on 2 July 1902 in Wrockwardine Wood. Beatrice married Walter HAYWARD in 1931 in Wellington. By the time the 1939 Register was taken on 29 September 1939 they were living at 20 Mafeking Terrace Wrockwardine Wood.

Walter died in 1974 in Telford, Gladys died a year later in 1975, both are buried at Wombridge Municipal Cemetery.

Edwin Ernest KINSEY, son of Edwin Ernest KINSEY and Emily HOWELLS, was born on 24 September 1904 in Wrockwardine Wood. By the time the 1939 Register was taken on 29 September 1939 they were living at 8 Moss Road Wrockwardine Wood, Edwin was working as a Sheet Metal Worker.

Ernest died on 19 December 1982 aged 78 and was buried at Wombridge Municipal Cemetery alongside a Walter Hayward and Gladys May Hayward.

Gwendoline Mary KINSEY was born in 1909 in St George’s and married Eric UNITT towards the end of 1939.

Charles Joseph KINSEY, son of Dennis William KINSEY and Mary Ann PLANT, was born on 12 October 1910 in Wrockwardine Wood. At the time of the 1939 Register was taken on 29 September 1939 he was  living with his parents and brothers Arthur and Edwin at 3 Moss Road Wrockwardine Wood and working as an Iron Foundry Labourer.

He died in Telford in December 1991 and was buried at Wrockwardine Wood Methodist Chapel Burial Ground.

Arthur Raymond KINSEY, son of Dennis William KINSEY and Mary Ann PLANT, was born on 8 September 1913 in St Georges. At the time of the 1939 Register was taken on 29 September 1939 he was living with his parents and brothers at 3 Moss Road Wrockwardine Wood and working as a Coal Hewer Electric Hauler. Arthur died in Telford in 1993.

Edwin KINSEY, son of Dennis William KINSEY and Mary Ann PLANT, was born on 3 April 1923 in St Georges. At the time of the 1939 Register was taken on 29 September 1939 he was living with his parents and brothers at 3 Moss Road Wrockwardine Wood and working as a Coal Hewer Surface Worker.

Edwin married Eva M OLIVER in 1948 in Wellington. Edwin died in 1987 in Telford aged 63 and Eva died in 1998 aged 68. They were buried at Wrockwardine Wood Methodist Chapel Burial Ground.

Descendants of Joseph KINSEY

The reason for the search for descendants is due to St Georges Church planning to relocate 7 headstones away from the spot marking the graves and to put against a wall elsewhere in the churchyard in order to create a communal area for events, which some local people are finding distasteful.
