This collection contains an index of societies in the United Kingdom and Ireland that were approved by national health insurance officials in 1912.
The index was divided into two sections: approvals made by the National Health Insurance Joint Committee and approvals made by the National Health Insurance Commissioners for England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales. The approvals made by the commissioners are divided into sections for the four countries. The joint committee approvals are not broken down by country, and the societies listed in this section accepted members from all four countries. The organisations listed in the index include church and civic benefit societies, insurance companies, and trade unions. The last page of the index has a list of societies for which joint committee or commissioner approval was pending at the time.
