Ancestry has added Teesside Parish Registers to its collection
New Teesside collections have been added to the Ancestry website this week.
Teesside, England, Church of England Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812
This collection includes Church of England parish registers of baptisms, marriages, and burials between 1538 and 1812 from the county of Teesside, England, which consisted former parts of County Durham and North Yorkshire.

This collection includes Church of England parish registers of births and baptisms between 1813 and 1923 from the county of Teesside, England, which consisted former parts of County Durham and North Yorkshire.
Teesside, England, Church of England Marriages and Banns, 1754-1939
This collection includes Church of England parish registers of marriages and banns between 1754 and 1939 from the historical of Teesside, England, which consisted former parts of County Durham and North Yorkshire.

Ancestry have referred to the collection coming from the Historic County of Teesside, however the County of Teesside only came into existence in 1968 and was abolished in 1974. In 1974 Teesside was replaced by Cleveland which covered a larger area. Cleveland itself was abolished in 1996, the towns south of the River Tees returned to Yorkshire and those to the North returned to County Durham.
The registers that have been digitised and indexed are those which are held at Teesside Archives in Middlesbrough. The majority only cover the area of North Yorkshire that was absorbed into Teesside. Parishes from Durham were also absorbed by the new county, but these are not included in the collection as they are held at Durham County Records Office.
