Farm Survey Records going online

The National Archives have announced that they will be digitising the National Farm Survey Records for England and Wales which was taken in 1941.

The National Archives have announced that thanks to a generous grant of £2.13m from the Lund Trust that they will be embarking on a project to digitise all the National Farm Survey Records from MAF 32 and MAF 73 in full.

The 1941 National Farm Survey is one of the most comprehensive records of land that the National Archives hold and one of the most requested collections. The collection contains extensive information on over 300,000 farms in England and Wales.

The current complex filing of the paper records makes it difficult for researchers to order and use, as the records are only available in physical copy. This exciting project will digitise the series in full and will create a new digital catalogue to make each farm searchable online.

Genealogists, family and local historians will be able to consult the series for their own research, and the project will lay the ground for new analyses by historical economists, geographers and ecologists.
