New Records Available To Search This Findmypast Friday
This week’s Findmypast Friday marks the release of over 697,000 new records including more than 172,000 new additions to our collection of Dorset parish records and significant updates to our Irish newspaper collection. Also included this week are new British Army Boer War records that will allow you to uncover fascinating details of your ancestor’s military service.
Anglo-Boer War Records 1899-1902
Over 2,500 records have been added to our collection of Anglo-Boer War Records.
Anglo-Boer War Records 1899-1902 is a unique collection of assorted document taken from more than 470 sources and containing more than 293,000 names. Consisting of casualty rolls, service rolls, honour rolls, force rolls and a variety of other documents, the records will allow you to uncover your ancestors rank, regiment, service number, details of the awards they received and whether they were killed or wounded in the line of duty.
More than 68,000 new records from 86 parish churches have been added to our collection of Dorset Baptisms. Each record consists of a transcript of an original parish register that will list your ancestor’s name, birth date, the location of their baptism and its date. Many records will also include the names of both of their parents and their address, allowing you to jump back through the generations while adding new branches to your family tree. All transcripts were created by volunteers of the Dorset Family History Society.
Dorset baptisms now contains more than 389,000 records taken from the baptism registers of more than 250 parishes.
More than 42,000 new records from 47 Dorset parishes are now available to search in our collection of Dorset Baptisms. Each record consists of a transcript of an original parish register created by volunteers of the Dorset Family History Society that will list your ancestor’s name, occupation, home parish and the name of their spouse as well as their spouse’s parish and occupation. A number of records will also indicate whether they were married by banns or by licence and may even include the names of any witnesses present.
Dorset marriages now contains just under 648,000 records taken from the marriage registers of more than 384 churches, chapels and Quaker Meetings.
Over 52,000 new records covering 57 burial sites have been added to our collection of Dorset Burials. Each record consists of a transcript that will reveal your ancestor’s name, age at death, birth year, burial date and burial place. Dorset Burials has been created using indexes from both the Dorset Family History Society and Family Search.
Dorset baptisms now contains more than 381,000 records from 342 parishes.
Over 525,000 brand new fully searchable articles have recently been added to our collection of historic Irish Newspapers.
This latest tranche includes one brand new title from Northern Ireland – The Lisburn Herald, and Antrim and Down Advertiser. Currently covering the years 1891-1896, this newspaper is a must-read for anyone with ancestors from that part of the country. Significant updates have also been made to seven existing titles.
