New Nottinghamshire Parish Records, Mid-Norfolk Monumental Inscriptions and Sussex Newspaper Notices now available at Findmypast
This week’s new additions also include over 1,776,000 UK parish records from the historic county of Nottinghamshire, over 1,500 monumental inscriptions from Norfolk and a fascinating index newspapers notices from Eastbourne in Sussex.
Nottinghamshire baptisms 1538 -1980 contain over 847,000 records listing the details of individuals who were baptised during the 442 year period between 1538 and 1980. Transcribed by members of the Nottinghamshire Family History Society, each record contains a transcript of the original parish registers.
Nottinghamshire marriages 1528-1929 contain over 689,000 records. Transcribed by members of the Nottinghamshire Family History Society, they list the details of the couples married in the historic county between 1528 and 1929. Between 1754 and 1837 all marriages legally had to take place in a Church of England parish and even outside those dates, many denominations chose to register births, marriages and deaths in the Church of England.
Nottinghamshire burials – 1539-1905 contain over 240,000 records transcribed by the Nottingham Family History Society. Spanning the 366 years between 1539 and 1905, the records were kept by the Church of England. The Church of England mandated the keeping of registers in 1539 and, up until the Religious Toleration Act of 1689, all registrations were kept by the Church of England.
Over 1,500 new records have been added to the Mid Norfolk Monumental Inscriptions, 1471-2012. Transcribed by members of the Mid-Norfolk Family History Society, this record set now contains over 9,500 inscriptions from over 25 of the county’s parishes. Monumental inscriptions often include details which cannot be found in burial registers; such as, the names of parents and spouses, descriptions of the headstone or monument dedicated to your ancestor and, for those who served with the military, you will often find military rank and regiment. The collection also includes war memorials.
The Eastbourne Gazette was a weekly tabloid paper first published in 1859. Sussex, Eastbourne Gazette newspaper notices 1858-1931, was created by “Family Roots” The Family History Society for Eastbourne and District and consists of an index of names found within the paper’s pages related to birth, marriage and death notices. The collection also includes names found in the paper in relation to other events like divorces, murders, tragedies, shipwrecks, lynching and paternity cases. The newspaper reported on stories in Sussex, but also internationally. Stories from Ireland to Switzerland and the USA can be found by using the Keyword search to discover indexed reports from specific countries.
