Ancestry adds Selected Rate Books for London, 1684-1907
Ancestry.co.uk has added a number of selected Rate Books covering parts of London for the period between 1684 and 1907.
Rates were collected in each parish for support of the sick and poor, maintenance of roads and church, and other parish expenses. This database includes rate books held at the London Metropolitan Archives for parishes in London.
Rates were assessed based on a dwelling’s value. These records include a listing of who occupied the house, who owned the house, the type of dwelling, the name or situation of the property, how much rent was collected, and the rates paid.
